MSW Console Frames in 21.4.2 for Cygwin 22 years, 12 months

In 21.4.2 for Cygwin, executing a Win app causes a blank MSDOS frame to open, and quickly close. I didn't see these with 21.1. Can anyone shed some light on this... please ? Given XEmacs now supports three display types (X, Windows and TTY), I figured I'd configuring out the Microsoft window system with ./configure --with-msw=no but alas, it made no difference. Build report below is with msw back in. A simple example - xemacs shell-mode running bash, type - bash> cmd /C pwd If you type the same thing from a bash shell in an xterm there is no DOS frame. OK, I'm using GTK-XEmacs from the head of cvs (XEmacs 21.5 (beta3) "asparagus" [Lucid] (i686-pc-linux, Mule) of Tue Dec 4 2001 on balder2). Here's the things I see that are broken or not working right. I know that Bill P isn't actively working on this. I just thought someone might be able to give some pointers on where to start hacking... - My Minibuffer has a "dead" region. It's one line high, but appears to have another line that is grey (as opposed to the white background of the usable minibuffer). It looks ugly and takes up real estate. - I can't seem to set the selection face. I'm not sure that's the correct name. When I mark (and highlight) a region it's not highlighting. It's marking. Normal region functions operat, but I can't see what's marked. - In the customize buffer, the "Set", "Save", and "Done" buttons are there but not right. They are just grey squares. They don't look like buttons and don't have any text on them. They also flicker like there's a refreshing event going on. That's all I've seen so far. Pretty impressive actually. Nothing that's a usability issue. I did have to go through and set a lot of faces. building packages from cvs 22 years, 12 months

I built xemacs last night from the head of cvs using --with-gtk. That worked with no appearant problems. I then grabbed the head of packages and tried to build that. At first I just took the Local.rules.template and just copied it over to Local.rules. That wouldn't actually compile when I did 'make install'. I'm thinking it's because I didn't do anything to enable mule when I built xemacs and now the packages were trying to do mule stuff. So, I set BUILD_WITHOUT_MULE to t and redid the 'make install'. I then re-read the INSTALL file to see that I should have done a 'make autoloads'. So I did a 'make clean; make autobuilds; make install'. This all seemed to work OK. After I created the /usr/local/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages directory and copied everything from my packages/xemacs-packages directory over. When I restarted xemacs I still wasn't able to find any of my packages. My init.el barfed on every require that I did (specifically uniqify and vc before I assumed it would barf on all of them). 21.4.6 windows rc2 is up (nearly) 22 years, 12 months

This mostly just fixes the lossage that Jan's face patches introduced. The files are still uploading and it will take a while for the mirrors to catch up so wait a couple of hours before trying. I still aim to fix these two before releasing 21.4.6 for windows (apart from waiting for the mainline release): - need to fix popup menus under cygwin - investigate cygwin slowdowns with shell commands The regexp coredump appears to not be mswindows specific, so I might leave it. Unfortunately the replace-match fix that someone posted doesn't help here. andy to XEmacs 21.4.6 "Common Lisp (Windows)" - Fixed yet more problems with URL handling under cygwin. - Cancel on the directory dialog now works. - The directory toolbar icon now invokes the directory dialog. - Fixed problems with saving options under customize. - Made native registry entries match the installer. - toggle-buffer-file-coding-system now marks the buffer as modified. - Fixed mousewheel lockups. - Frame iconifcation fix from Adrian Aichner. - Fixed some printing problems. - Netinstaller updated to support kit revisions. - Printer fix for non-MS systems from Mike Fabian - Window loop fix from Darryl Okahata
