I'm not sure about this change. I *think* it's probably doing almost the right thing, but can we hold off applying it whilst I have a think about it. My initial thoughts are that the extra call to select-coerce (which is going to replace this particular use of select-convert-out, by the way) should be immediately after the call to get_local_selection, because we shouldn't be trying to perform internal coercion on values from other apps. I've got a bit bored of the binary decoding stuff (it's quite complicated) and so I may well take a break from that and return to adding the select-coerce-* functionality. open-network-stream to dead host hang XEmacs 24 years, 4 months

$ xemacs -vanilla (open-network-stream "bug" nil "10.0.0.42" 42) Now XEmacs 21.1 (and 20.4) is hung, C-g doesn't do anything. XEmacs 21.2 seem fine. Perhaps the solution used there could be back-ported to XEmacs 21.1? (The 10.0.0.42 address should be chosen so that you don't get ANY responses from the host, including ICMP. "telnet 10.0.0.42" should hang indefinitely.)
