psgml package uploaded for testing 24 years, 6 months

psgml has gone through a major update, it has been updated to version 1.2.1. I've uploaded now a new package /psgml-1.16-pkg.tar.gz together with the corresponding package-index file to ftp.xemacs.org/pub/beta. You can use: (setq package-get-remote '(("ftp.xemacs.org" "xemacs/beta/incoming"))) to get the packages Please test this package and tell me any problems with it asap. crash in VM with strange smiley 24 years, 6 months

[current 21.2 (cvs upd earlier this afternoon)] when I read the attached msg in VM with smiley's turned on, i.e. (require 'messagexmas) (require 'smiley) (add-hook 'vm-select-message-hook 'smiley-buffer) (add-hook 'vm-summary-mode-hook 'smiley-buffer) (add-hook 'vm-summary-update-hook 'smiley-buffer) (add-hook 'vm-summary-redo-hook 'smiley-buffer) xemacs dies - when running under gdb I just get the now-familiar: Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. kill () at engine.c:648 648 engine.c: No such file or directory. (gdb) where #0 kill () at engine.c:648 #1 0x41531ac in raise () at iconv_converter.c:22087 if I comment out this line: (add-hook 'vm-select-message-hook 'smiley-buffer) or delete the line with all the carats in it, xemacs is happy -- John A. New packages release pending 24 years, 6 months

Hi all, I'm trying to get a new package release out of the door asap. I do ask for your help: - Did I miss any patches which should be applied to fix a real showstopper? Please send me the email or an URL? - Is everything working or do you know about any showstoppers? Please test the CVS versions. I do ask others *not* to check anything in without my approval. Sorry, I've been to busy to get this done during the last weeks. I've realized my limits and how much I like glibc work ;-). If somebody else likes to take over my job as release engineer of the packages or likes to share it with me, please tell me. The following code is how SEMI shows an image inline under XEmacs. Alternatives to toolbar integration... 24 years, 6 months

Well, I've done two flavors of the toolbar integration, neither one of which I am particularly happy about. I'd appreciate any feedback people have on which way they would prefer it to be implemented. The first one was modeled after the windows world, where they use a native toolbar and XEmacs does not get any mouse events, etc, from it. This worked, but there does not seem to be a way to force the toolbar to the width of the window. Plus Hrvoje brought up several good points about the tooltips not being MULE'ized, etc, etc. Plus the buttons just did not look very pretty. Implementing a 'detachable' toolbar would also be difficult, as XEmacs tries to be helpful and reserves blank space for where the menubar should go, and I have to manually position it there instead of letting a geometry manager handle it. Plus it just did not look very good (in my opinion). The other was based on the X way of doing things, where it just draws the border and pixmaps manually in the blank area reserved by XEmacs. This has the benefits of working exactly like XEmacs currently does, you can use the balloon-help mode to get MULE-ified tooltips, popup menus, etc, etc. It looks almost exactly like the X toolbar, but is also not detachable. *sigh* What REALLY needs to happen is to revamp the toolbar specifications so that you just specify a single image, the tooltip, and the active/callback slots. This is similar to ben's proposal at http://www.666.com/xemacs/lisp-interface.html, but I really don't see why we need a glyph list anymore. Automatically generating a 'disabled' version of an image is not that difficult (GtkPixmap has an option to do this for you, and Emacs 21.x does it automatically for you), and with the mandatory 'caption' slot you get automatic tooltips, so you don't have to deal with the captioned versions of the glyphs, etc. Unfortunately the CVS server is down right now and I can't find anyone in seattle to go find out what is wrong. *sigh* So you'll have to take my word for it that this works. :) So... I'm interested in peoples opinions. Which interface would they prefer? -Bill P.
