Following patch was generated against 21.1 CVS as of today.
It applied fine to 21.2 CVS as of today.
This allows me to install XEmacs packages under WindowsNT which I
build under WindowsNT.
It removes the dependance on the extrnal program md5sum.
I will apply this to 21.2 if noone vetos or applies the patch by tuesday.

package-info.el uses this to create the MD5 sum for package-info:

This is bad for two reasons:
You need the external program md5sum!
The process of md5sum calculation during package generation is
different (using external program) from the validation process during
installation (using XEmacs builtin function md5).
I'm working on a patch for lisp\package-info.el now.

Latest CVS. I move the mouse around in and out of the xemacs window.
I believe this particular buffer was the About buffer.
I have been unable to reproduce this in -vanilla.

I see the "async reply" problem mostly upon starting a subprocess,
like igrep. Could this be related to Ben's subprocess changes?

Because it didn't work. The main Makefile doesn't include
XEmacs.rules - and BUILD_MULE is defined in XEmacs.rules only. As a
quick fix (I mean hack), I added this. AFAIR Karl did send in December a
patch to correct this - but this patch was also broken and didn't work
with mule builds.

Feel free to clean up everything - or document it properly. I didn't
have the time so far to do it right :-(.
