Jan P.S. I think it is very rare for people to fail their defense here. However apparently it does occur sometimes that somebody "accepted on the condition that <3 months works of changes> is applied". Given that my advisor is reluctant to fix a date until he is sure of the final version I presume that won't happen for me.

The make files can handle that. The problem is that the package build process thinks it is sufficient to have the .el files in place. For that reason I would love to get rid of the VM special build case anyway. Jan

The only occasion where I have used this function is to turn as ascii table into to tex table which I did as follows. Move to the column where want to insert the ampersand. Then type C-SPC M-> to move to the end of the buffer Type left to the end of the last line M-x string-rectangle & RET I would be highly annoyed if this deleted the whole right half of the table. I never want XEmacs to delete anything unless I asked it too. My opinion that tying this to pending-delete covers 99.99% of all cases still stands. Jan

vc-revert-buffer bug 24 years, 9 months

This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team, not to your local site managers!! Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have translators to read other languages for them. In XEmacs 21.2 (beta29) "Hestia" [Lucid] (sparc-sun-solaris2.6, Mule) of Thu Feb 17 2000 on betty configured using `configure --with-mule --with-clash-detection' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: This bug used to exist with GNU Emacs but was fixed about 1-2 years ago. I don't remember how it was fixed, but the bug also occurs in xemacs. Create the following directory setup: $ ls * dir1: RCS/ file1 dir2: file2 With file1 already checked in. Now run xemacs, and load the vc.el package. In one frame, open three windows with these buffers: file2 ------------ file2 ------------ file1 Go to the third window, checkout file1, edit the text, then save. Now do a vc-revert-buffer and say "yes" to cancel the changes. dir1/file1 does not change. However, a fresh copy is incorrectly stored in dir2/file1! I believe CVS has a similar problem.
