There are some writeups on how to do this portably. The debian folk have one, I'l try finding it [time passes] I seem to have mistaken on the existence of write-ups. The best portable solution seems to be.. umask 077 tmpdir=${TMPDIR-/tmp}/foo.$$ mkdir $tmpdir || exit 1 trap "rm -rf $tmpdir; exit" 0 1 2 3 15 but that is still insecure on some platforms... Maybe we should simply ship mktemp? > AFAIK rcs2log comes from Emacs and Emacs is still the "master source" > for cvs. Maybe we should snarf the FSF 20.4 version in the same process at the same time. The etags stuff separated off (the patch is fine it just needs to be separate). 2. The patch to unexecsgi.c part needs to include a comment on how the new code works (Max Matveev later send this seperately). 3. The patch to the iris*.h stuff needs to be rewritten such as to only do this for Irix 6.x. I have a prototype patch for that. 4. Everything needs changelogs Basically all the stuff is there it just needs to be cleaned up (_and tested_) before it gets in, so that we can later see what happened and why. incorrect gutter placement when menubar is not visible 26 years

When the menubar is not visible, the gutter is drawn over the top-most buffer in the window. The layout is correct, space is left in the frame for the gutter, it is just not drawn in the correct location. To reproduce, start xemacs (-q) and eval (add-spec-list-to-specifier menubar-visible-p '((global (nil . nil)))) The menubar disappears, and the the frame looks like [toolbar] [gray space the height of the gutter] [top half of first line of *scratch* buffer] [the gutter] ;; then enter the text in that file's own buffer [third line of *scratch* buffer] - Cotton
