This looks like a promising starting point, thanks! I'm also seeing eldap.{c,h} in modules/eldap/ (lot's of differences against src/eldap.{c,h}). "Modules" sounds like a Good Thing so should I take a look at modules/eldap/ instead? (As you can tell, I know less than nothing of the internals of XEmacs)

Ben, I have been browsing through ''Architecting XEmacs'' website and stumbled on the mailing list/xemacs.org adressing improvement bit[1]. May I suggest a way that us package maintainers/general XEmacs helps can get at the bugreports? If people do not copy their backtraces to c.e.x., I cannot help them. There was something done about this for 20.3/20.4 but I don't see it came to anyhting helpfull. Although we do need to have something like a proper bugtracking system it would help if we had also lazy-shot-bugs where somebody could forward the reports from the main incomming adress.. This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team, not to your local site managers!! Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have translators to read other languages for them. In XEmacs 21.0 "Erzgeberg" [Lucid] (i686-pc-linux) of Thu Aug 20 1998 on Thor Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: I'm trying to customize xemacs to suit my needs. Mostly failing because a lot of variables are reported as "this option has been changed outside the customize buffer." so any value I input there is erased the next time I launch xemacs. The latest ones I found are: Customize->Xemacs->Programming->Tools->Ediff->Use Toolbar Customize->Xemacs->Programming->Tools->Ediff Highlighting->Use Faces Customize->Xemacs->Programming->Tools->Ediff Highlighting->Highlht All Customize->Xemacs->Environment->Display->Ctl Arrow I also have a strang behaviour with the Syntax Highlighting: It seems to be set up correctly, but it does NOT highliht my "C" files until I go again to Options->Syntax Highlighting and change something (even if I do not change anything (most is selected and I select it again). Then It will work until I kill xemacs I have an almost completely clean ~/.emacs (I deleted the old one to try to find out who is "changing the options", and I have the same behaviour with a ~/.emacs empty but for what customize writes). I was afraid I'd find things like this, which is exactly why that check is now in configure (since PNG includes jmp_buf in it's own structures, that's *dangerous*)... What's 'wrong' with your setup is that the way that configure puts together the lib search paths and the include search paths causes it to find the library from one version and the include from another. The best 'fix' is to keep only one version (the latest) of the header files.
