Calendar package, somebody ? 26 years, 5 months

Hi there, folks ! Don't know if anybody has already addressed the following topic, I'm pretty new to this list. 1) Is there a maintainer for the calendar package ? (Oops, that seems to be a dangerous word these days ..) 2) Setting the calendar date-style to european, i.e., (setq calendar-date-display-form '((if dayname (concat dayname ", ")) day " " monthname " " year)) breaks `view-diary-entries', since normally day entries in the diary file don't have daynames: (defun insert-diary-entry (arg) "Insert a diary entry for the date indicated by point. Prefix arg will make the entry nonmarking." (interactive "P") (make-diary-entry (calendar-date-string (calendar-cursor-to-date t) t t) arg)) The third argument of the call to calendar-date-string prohibits generating the dayname. Why isn't this a settable variable ? A small workaround: ;; grr, messing around with the calendar-date-display-form breaks ;; inserting dates that are matched by calendars `view-diary-entries'. (defvar insert-diary-entry-with-dayname t "Whether inserting diary entries from the calendar should insert daynames.") (defun insert-diary-entry (arg) "Insert a diary entry for the date indicated by point. Prefix arg will make the entry nonmarking." (interactive "P") (make-diary-entry (calendar-date-string (calendar-cursor-to-date t) t insert-diary-entry-with-dayname) arg)) Then I can do: (setq insert-diary-entry-with-dayname nil) and am happy again. A similar argument applies to the second parameter, which enables abbreviations. Again, I think that it should be settable. In general, I think that making calendar/diary more language-aware (or at least, aware of user-settings) is a good idea. Any comments ? The big problem is that neither gtk or Qt use Xt, and therfore all the resource-related code and event loops would need to be rewritten. I for one would be more interested in spending the time to really understand/rewrite/cleanup lwlib than deal with the other headaches. I *like* the look and feel of lwlib (if a couple of minor nits could be worked out of them). After my current round of windmill tilting is done, I'll have a look at them. David has a point. Why are these files loaded rather than required? All x-win-sun contains is a function definition, which is not even called at top level! I have some old code lying around from when I was learning how to use Xt, and I'll try and clean it up, make it look spiffy and work with the rest of lwlib. Other things I wish to do to lwlib are fix the menu redraws and deal with the pull-right/pull-left gap problem. The ability to dynamically add C-level primitives to XEmacs at runtime. Check out the 'modules' directory in XEmacs 20. There is a modularized version of the ldap code, a base64 encoder/decoder, a sample module, and the beginning of a zlib interface. -Bill P.
