For instance, EUDC can use three different backends none of which is strictly required. Each of them depends on some other package. I can't see how a tool could determine automatically which requirements are really necessary and which just enhance functionality without my writing it explicitely. Oscar

Also, that code is really irritating because it causes my cvs updates to always fail on that file. So I'm for taking it out of the distribution, like package-get-base.el. Maybe then it never actually needs to get written out, just eval the right forms which you generate as package-get-base is read in? Another issue is keeping in sync with package-get-base, which is more dynamic now. It isn't loaded until you call a package-get function, and can be updated from mail/news/update files during a session. Guess package-get-custom should just be updated at the same time. In the function package-get-update-base-entry should work. I'll think about it a little more. greg

Possible bug in hide-ifdef-mode 26 years, 1 month

If I do M-x hide-ifdef-mode in a C++/C mode buffer, hide-ifdef minor mode is correctly initialised except for the keymap, which is not bound in. So C-c ＠ just says C-c ＠ not defined, and C-h b errors with "Wrong type argument: keymapp, hide-ifdef-mode-map". This is obviously not a great state of affairs in vanilla xemacs. Cribbing from hideshow.el, it appears that a line of the following form is required: (fset 'hide-ifdef-mode-map hide-ifdef-mode-map) and indeed this cures the problem. The question is, is this the right way to fix the problem and is it Emacs compatible? If someone can assure me as to the rightness of this patch, I'll submit it to xemacs-patches. Cheers, Malcolm

Where is Emacs CVS/RCS mode? 26 years, 1 month

I downloaded 21.0-b57 and the SUMO tarball and got everything to work by saying --without-jpeg. IRIX 6.3 seem to ship with some old jpeg libraries that doesn't work with XEmacs. Anyway. How do I get the Emacs CVS/RCS mode working? C-x C-q etc. Is there a reasons XEmacs ships with a different CVS library (PCL-CVS?) than Emacs? /s
