I think the following behavior of `set-time-zone-rule' and `current-time-zone' is a bit strange: (progn (set-time-zone-rule nil) (current-time-zone)) => (7200 "MET DST") (progn (set-time-zone-rule "GMT") (current-time-zone)) => (0 "GMT") (progn (set-time-zone-rule "MET DST") (current-time-zone)) => (0 "MET") huh? Reset face and Custom 26 years, 1 month

Custom uses faces-spec-set to change fonts, which amounts to (reset-face face) (face-display-set face spec) (while frames (face-display-set face spec (car frames)) (pop frames)) (init-face-from-resources face)))) Now if face is default the default face is totally hosed by (reset-face 'default) In a vannilla XEmacs this gives a white background. 1. What should (reset-face 'default) do? 2. Shouldn't (init-face-from-resources 'default) set it to the standard grayXX setting? Jan

Motif 2.1: windowed ancestor bug 26 years, 1 month

I guess this is Motif 2.1 related stuff since it don't happens if XEmacs is linked with Motif1.2_R6 libs. Futher it is reproducable! Symtoms: XEmacs (21.2 "Aglaia") disappaers with an error message Error: Object "" does not have windowed ancestor It happens everytime I am trying to exit gnus (latest) by hitting the exit button. There is no core and no lisp backtrace. Any X11/Motif experts out there? --Marcus

Bootstrapping a new XEmacs install 26 years, 1 month

As the ETH now finally gives out free PPP access to its employees I bought a modem for at home. Of cource I checked XEmacs out of the CVS (21.2) and proceeded with a fresh install. As far as I thought (and is documented) the only package one needs to install by hand is efs, so I ftp'ed and typed M-x pui-list-packages. Unfortunately it was a no go. Efs needs at least 'comint' and 'passwd'. What is the minimal package tree needed to start from? IMHO it should be possible to ditch these dependencies on comint and passwd both are not needed when bootstrapping. Jan

better organization for package hierarchy? 26 years, 1 month

I was just thinking, maybe it makes sense to reorganize the package hierarchy with separate autoloads and custom loads directories at the top level. This would * make it easy to have the two sounds packages have autoloads and be identified as present by the package system without adding extra lisp directories with just autoloads. * should reduce the number of directories to stat searching for autoloads and custom loads during startup. * make it easy to put all your lisp in a single directory (the same-named auto-autoloads.el and custom-load.el files currently clash and would need to be renamed). * and separate the non user-loaded .el files from the lisp/<package> directories where it doesn't seem to belong. Something like $PACKAGES/ etc info lib-src lisp/<package>/foo.el man pkginfo auto-autoloads/<package>.el custom-load/<package>.el Does this make any sense?
