I recompiled xemacs (gcc-3.2, with all updated libs -- png, gdk, imlib); the png.h messages no longer appear, gnus (from button) still crashes xemacs, and I also noticed that copy/paste with the mouse only (as in the non-gtk-version) does not work. One still needs to highlight a region, click on the copy button, move to new locaten, click the paste button. The info-lockups seem to be due to the fact that if /usr/share/info is not group-writeable, and info-files are gzipped, info hangs trying to gunzip some file. My workaround was to make /usr/share/info writeable by me as non-root.
