I can't reproduce this on Linux . I've installed all packages and
started xemacs -vanilla, evaluated (require 'compile) in the scratch
buffer and didn't see any problem.
This doesn't look like a general problem. Can you check this please -
or can other reproduce this and help finding the problem?
 And I don't have access to NT - and don't want to ;-)
