i think that _all_ uppercase is ok, and that 2 capitals letters on
the left give an unpleasant unbalanced feel
I hope the capitalization of the first two letters is retained,
it gives the editor's name a distinctive look.

Yeah, like any traditionally-named X app (XTerm, KTerm, ..., `ls
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults' gives a bunch more). (Maybe that's
the "lack of balance" Giacomo refers to? :-)
I consider that a point in favor, considering the origins of our
favorite version of the world's best editor, but I imagine others
don't.

i like the name XEmacs --- i don't want to change the name
but i feel that, crafting a logo, you may want to write XEmacs
capitalized, and that's not changing its name...
i feel appropriate a full capitalization _in the logo only_ for
reasons of visual balance among the regoionss of the image
