Hello
In principle this mail is for Jeff, but in case somebody tried to
compile xemacs-gtk and run into similar problems, I post it to the list.
I applied Jeff's configure option and then make gave me

Looks like you have a Gtk older than 2.24. I've checked in a fix.

I don't get this problem at all. It both compiles and executes the
unit tests OK. What happens after that is another story ;-)
I guess it is inevitable that when introducing a new concept like GTK2
and GTK3 there will be some environmental issues that it will take
some time to sort out.

It is the same box that runs the xemacs-buildbot and the x86-gentoo
buildslaves. It is a 32 bit Gentoo stable machine running Gnome.

I don't think it's going to help much. The kinds of errors we're
seeing strongly suggest that some header file isn't getting included
somewhere, which is likely a bug in XEmacs's configure (eg, a conflict
between an explicit --with-xft and the Xft implied by --with-gtk, as I
suggested earlier) and/or the #ifdef's.
It could also be that the header file is separate in GTK 2.20 and
included by <gtk.h> or something like that in GTK 2.24, but that's
best diagnosed by somebody who knows a lot about GTK (or more than I
do, anyway).

Uwe is running ubuntu 10.04 with an older version of Gtk than I used. I
think he has 2.20, I just modified configure.ac to include that information.
Gtk is constantly adding functions.
If these fixes aren't complete, I'll have to make a VM for 10.04 and get
xemacs-gtk to compile there.
