Dear Bug Team!
When using altdesk1.3 (http:/www.astonshell.com - a program to provide
multiple desktops)
on MS Windows 2000 the x-emacs window does not refresh when I change
virtual desktops.
I can force a refresh by changing the window size. From that point
forward it works fine
until I leave the desktop it occupies...

Known bug, fix not easy, but maybe in 21.4.7.

Dear Bug Team!
When using altdesk1.3 (http:/www.astonshell.com - a program to provide
multiple desktops)
on MS Windows 2000 the x-emacs window does not refresh when I change
virtual desktops. I can force a refresh by changing the window size. From
that point forward it works fine
until I leave the desktop it occupies...

Let's clarify the situation and review our options:
Before my patch, iconification was broken for everyone on Windows.
Now it works fine, except for reports from some users of virtual
window managers of XEmacs not refreshing after switching between
virtual windows.
There are workarounds for this:
Let me know if Maximize/Restore of XEmacs does not cure the problem
for you!
I would still call that an improvement over the previous situation.
The problem I'm having is that I need more precise feedback from the
sufferers to help fixing the breakage.
I'd suggest that the users in the Cc list of this mail provide
feedback on their VWM program and exact version numbers as well as a
publically downloadable image of the program for Windows NT/2K.

Right, I had never seen a problem with iconification - but that doesn't mean

No, this is not a command I was even familiar with, let alone used. I just
tried it and it appeared to work the first time, but when I restored the window
and tried it again, I got the message "Already iconified?" in the minibuffer.
Is that the symptom you've been trying to fix? If so, how is C-x C-z different
internally from just C-z, which appears to work fine? Is there a clue there?

I updated from CVS last night, using tag windows-21-4. (emacs-version) now
reports:
XEmacs 21.4 (patch 6) "Common Lisp (Windows [3])" [Lucid] (i686-pc-cygwin) of

With Adrian's iconification fix in event-msw.c, C-x C-z works correctly, but
switching windows in my virtual window manager still locks up XEmacs. If I
uncomment the "FRAME_VISIBLE_P (frame) = 1;" statement at line 2656 in
event-msw.c, I can switch windows again, but C-x C-z stops working with the
message "Already iconified?" in the minibuffer.
I *hope* to have some time in the next week or so to look at this in more
detail. At least I now know what Adrian's patch was for... ;-)

Interesting. In the cygwin build, (zap-to-char) is bound to M-z, while C-z is
bound to (suspend-emacs-or-iconify-frame). I'm doing nothing explicit in my
configuration to change that. Perhaps it's an artifact of some package I'm
loading?
In any event, (suspend-emacs-or-iconify-frame) seems to work fine, and
*appears* to have the same effect as (suspend-or-iconify-emacs) with only one
frame open. Can any clue be taken from that?

Usually xemacs-announce. I've been holding off for the moment because the
fixes have been dribbling in and I though 21.4.7 was just around the corner.
