Hello,
Last week, I finally started rewriting Liece. And now it basically
works. Although it lacks many features in Liece, it has multi-server
connectivity, cleaner module dependencies, extensive add-on mechanism,
and no dependencies on other libraries such as APEL.
I've just created the XEmacs package:
http://wiliki.designflaw.org/riece-1.1-pkg.tar.gz
(As you see, the project name is "Riece" :-)
If you like it, I think I'll abandon `liece' package and add `riece'
package instead.
Any comments?

I am a liece user, and I like it (converted over from zenirc).
Daiki, please let's make a smooth transition, keeping the liece
package around for at least a year.
Switching to bug-fix-only-mode might be a good way to start phasing
out liece.
But first I would like to give riece a test-drive :-)

Yup, I second that. People might really get annoyed, if they don't
see "their" package after a new release.

What's the current state of the new incarnation of your package? If
you've got a buildable tarball of sources which I can import into the
package tree, send it to me (or point me to an URL), and I try to get
things running (any preferred vendor and start tags?).
I think now's a good time to start a new package, since we're early in
a new release cycle.
As has been mentioned earlier we'll keep liece around for some time to
give people a fair chance to switch over ;-) I'd suggest at least
until the first official release of riece has been created.

Sounds good, except that I would like to request a 6 month period from
the time liece is declared obsolete until now new package version will
be rolled (stopper bugs and such).

http://deisui.org/~ueno/tmp/riece.tar.gz
After extracting the tarball, it should be built using "make bindist" in
that directory.

an IRC server, that's enough for a smoketest :-)
