What does "sync with current upstream" mean exactly? Does
this mean that the
version of ECB in the XEmacs package has been synchronized with the official
author-controlled version? If so, I guess that means that the package
maintainer has responsibility for keeping up with the author's changes and
getting them into the package. Are there criteria for how well the XEmacs
package should track the author's releases?
Well,funny...:-)
In case of ECB the official author is identical with the maintainer of
the XEmacs-version of this package. Therefore "Sync with current upstream"
means just:
- copying the latest official author-released sources to the XEmacs-package
- testing a lot with XEmacs (though this is also done already before
a author-release ;-)
- making patches via diff compared to the current official XEmacs-release
- sending these patches to the xemacs-patches(a)xemacs.org
- checking in the latest official author-released sources in the XEmacs-
package-repository
- sending a note about "Sync with current..." to xemacs-beta(a)xemacs.org
