Unisys has every right to change their tune, regardless of the legal
standing of the alleged patent on the decompression process.
I just dislike lying uninformed lawyers. Heck, those lawyer/PR wackos
are claiming that TIFF-LZW is a "version" of LZW, as are
"Postscript-2" [sic] and PDF. News to SGI and Adobe, respectively,
I'm sure, and it looks like trademark infringement as worded (with
nary a reference to the owners of those trademarks).
I don't much like Unisys, either, but that doesn't change the
legalities of the situation vis-a-vis gifreader. Just 'cause the mad
dog might get shot after it bites you is no reason to get in its way.
