Steve, the problem is different. bark2 is not a PCM file, it is a CCITT G.711 mu-law encoded file, the encoding used in telephony when transferring sound between switch centers. Hrvoje already said that some software he has reports errors like "Cannot play sound: not a PCM file". Bark3 is a PCM encoded sound. I guess that XEmacs can play 8 bit PCM.
