Nobody wrote code to convert the old options settings to the new code. If you ever wondered why options-save-faces what 'nil' in 20.4. Now you know. Use M-x customize-face RET default RET directly. Do you think not having a weight menu is a very bad thing? I left it out because the font-menu code needs to be rethought regarding weight anyway (currently you can only select fonts which are available in the same weight as the current form.) More over Customize needs to be updated to know about the more complicated weights. Jan
