Thanks for telling us about it! Hmm....
It strikes me that we don't need to "replace" postscript.el; there's
no reason why we can't offer multiple implementations of a given
mode. After all, we offer many messaging systems, a couple of
variants of TeX mode, at least two variants on adaptive fill, etc.
It does suggest to me that "somebody" ought to go through our packages
(and core Lisp! cf adaptive fill) and look for duplicates of this
sort, bitrot, etc, ..., and document them. Feel free to add your
personal evaluation of which are better (we already do that, see the
description of RMail in PACKAGES. :-)
I am going to add this to my personal priority queue, but if somebody
wants to get started on it, be my guest! Please note that we do have
PACKAGES and man/xemacs/packages.texi which have some descriptive
material on packaged Lisp; they might be a good place to start adding.
Get in touch with Steve Youngs, of course.
And if you have suggestions about how I should do it if I ever get
around to it (it is a priority queue, after all), let me know. I plan
to publish my own todo list[1] like Ben's Architecting XEmacs etc. (Hey,
maybe we should just have an XEmacs version of sourceXchange!)
