I'm afraid that what "this part of the thread" is could be a debate of
it's own.
The starting point for me was to try to understand what technical
problems there are in getting AUCTeX updated within the xemacs
packages. I'm afraid little technical answers to that question has
come out of this thread apart from that it should be a simple afair of
"move some files and edit some templates" if I remember correctly.
When it comes to the package system and how it is built, it is all
about the trade of between technical advantages and disadvantages. It
is based on a, maybe old, but a solid, principle to build everything
in a controlled environment.
