I believe this is a GC thing, now fixed in 21.4. The derived-mode fix
is already in 21.4. 21.4.9 to be released shortly.
However, xml-mode continues to complain that bold is not a mode. This
error is misleading, it's due to a condition-case in files.el catching
'error instead of something more specific. I'm pretty sure the
problem is in PSGML, possibly in psgml-html.el. I don't have time to
investigate at the moment.
