I'm not impressed. No mention of Xaudio, NAS, rplay, .... No
description of the API or what it really does.
Note that everybody and his dog has his own sound deamon.
It doesn't look like EsounD is anything like NAS from the docs,
actually; nowhere near as flexible, etc, etc.
The E sound deamon itself has has one essential implementation
advantage over NAS. If it is not used it doesn't block the sound
device. This makes it coexist a lot better with old style
open("/dev/dsp") programs on Linux and thus makes it possible to
enable it by default without annoying users.
