Hmm... I left the directory out due to its size (720k) and that I
didn't realize it could be used for making a hardcopy.
I'm a bit concerned about the maintenance too since screen dumps of
menus and windows will contain some information about the version of
emacs, the window system, the widget etc used that will sooner or
later will force you to create new dumps when things change. Or will
confuse users who don't use the same windows system. Do we want to
have a windows manual, a motif manual etc? No!
So if possible I would like to use less of these screen dumps. Suppose
the screen and menu dumps would be replaced by textual dumps. That
wouldn't look half as good but might be a better compromised between
all the different versions of windows, widgets and not to mention
(X)Emacs-versions!?
Is there some philosophy used by other packages that can guide us?
Another compromise could be to include the pictures and generate the
corresponding postscript files. I guess the later is only needed for
the whole manual after all and can be generated as part of that
process. This will reduce the size of the package. I also guess that
png would be a preferred format to the current gif pictures!?
