As a German, I'm always surprised why Germany is thought of being a
soccer super-force.
Probably a combination of traditional good results, and the famous
names in the national team. According to oft-quoted statistics, the
last time the German football team was defeated with such a result was
in 1958 against France, making this "their worst World Cup defeat in
40 years."
Currently, the team has at least two great weaknesses: it is much
too old and the midfield players are simply not good enough. Same
argument holds for most people playing offense, J.Klinsman for
example is just no longer effective as he has been in the World Cup
1990. So, no surprise on my side.
Interesting. The media created an image of Germans strongly believing
the game against Croatia to be a setup, especially Worn's red card.
