Which fonts do you use?
-adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--10-100-75-75-m-60-iso8859-15
at least for me, on a 1600x1200 screen. At such a font size, I
personally find that the fuzzyness that anti-aliasing adds impairs
readability. The high-frequency edges are necessary when a lowercase
'e' fits in 5x5 pixels.
