I'm not a big fan of this function, but maybe I don't understand the
use case. My complaint is that if the message is a small string or a
So far, I've only needed this function because git.el[1] uses it. The
only time I've noticed it was missing was when I wanted to add a file
(or files). I've tested the fixed version just once so far with adding
a file and it just says "Added file so-and-so" in the minibuffer.
Since I'm not an emacs user, I don't know the actual use-case for this
function.

[1] git.el is really pretty nice if you're used to using pcl-cvs. It
behaves pretty much like pcl-cvs, but uses git instead. There are a few
minor annoyances that I've have just started to look into, and this was
one of them.
