Well, yes --- AFAICT the memberships of -beta and -design are
identical, plus or minus 0.25%.
Once you've got a reasonable patch, it makes sense to say so on
-beta---but it probably makes even more sense for me to roll a release
candidate and tag the tree so we all know what people are working
with.

My feeling is yes. For instance, the global nature of the current
cache gives me the hink---I really don't like seeing the whole thing
get re-inited on every entry to a motion command.
Also, I see no reason to be sure we're going to get it right the first
time. So let's make the code sane, readable, and maintainable as much
as possible in case we need to do a little experimentation.
