[configure: feature request] Support configuration like `i386-linux'.
I would like if I could say `configure i386-linux', rather than
`configure i386-debian-linux'. Here's why (one paragraph at top of
page):

I cannot easily figure out the correct way to make it do that, or I'd
go ahead and submit a patch for it. It seems like it will only take
a few minutes for someone who knows exactly what to change or add...
