So anything that is listed in those variables is meant to be generated files (like $INFO_FILES), so consequently gets nuked on a 'make [dist]clean'. If you have HTML files in a package that you don't want deleted by make just list them somewhere else, like $DATA_FILES. This is what I did in this case.
