OT, but I'm asking here anyway. :-)
I often use gmane to read xemacs beta mail (especially since stupid
gmail never sends me my messages to the xemacs-beta list). This works
quite nicely, but today I wanted to look up some older messages. The
articles have been expired from gmane and are no longer available, but
it does show the author and subject lines. Just no body.
Is that something that some xemacs person did? If so, can that be
changed so the messages aren't expired? Or is that a gmane problem?

Not *as* an XEmacs person, no. GMane is certainly welcome to gateway
and archive XEmacs posts, but we have nothing to do with it officially
(for sure) or informally (as far as I know).

This is probably due to a mishap on Gmane. Lars is fixing the problem,
but it will take a while:

it's something very recent which
explains why I didn't have issues before. :-)
Sounds like things are under control and will be fixed soon.

I, too, observe phenomena sometimes. However I never found these
severe enough to justify investigating whether these are Gmane issues,
as opposed to Gnus issues or even XEmacs/Gnus compatibility issues.
