The CVS tag for the release is r21-2-47 (or the "moving tag"
r21-2-latest-beta). Tarballs are available in the usual place
ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/beta/xemacs-21.2. There are no PGP
signatures for this release.
21.2.47 "Zephir" contains a few changes to 21.2.46 "Urania". See
the
individual ChangeLogs for details.
However, its primary purpose is practice for me in creating a
distribution, uploading it, and announcing it, preparatory to the
release of 21.4.0. If you have time, I would appreciate it if a few
people would verify that the tarballs can be downloaded, the CVS tags
can be used for checkout, and that the resulting source trees can be
built.
FWIW, after downloading xemacs-21.2.46-21.2.47.patch.gz and trying to
apply it to my existing 21.2.46 build tree (which also was extracted
from the tarballs), I get the following:

Apparently this is not the expected source directory, aborting.
Use "--force" to override this.
I haven't tried the xemacs-21.2.47.tar.gz tarball yet as I don't like
the idea of pulling approx. 10 MB over a 56k line ... (Perhaps I will do
on Tuesday at work, but I guess I'd rather build 21.4.0 then.)
However, running applypatch with the "--force" option and building works
fine. Here's the output of `describe-installation':

I would not have caught it myself before the release, and I've added
"applypatch" to the set of checks I need to do before uploading.
What happened is that I locally copied the 21.2.47 tree then
reverse-updated it to make a 21.2.46 tree for the patch base. I'm
pretty sure that this would screw up any file adds and removes. I
suspect that on some platforms this would result in missing files; you
were lucky to get a sucessful build.
Of course, Martin's xre script gets this right. He does this by
keeping the previous "master" workspace around ... I don't have one
yet! Too bad I didn't see it was a necessity, not merely convenience.
Martin, if downloading the Urania tarball and makepatch'ing against
that doesn't validate with applypatch, I'll get back to you for more
advice.

OK, I've created a new patchkit, tested it by applypatch'ing against
both `cvs checkout -r r21-2-46' and xemacs-21.2.46.tar.gz from
ftp.xemacs.org.[1], and uploading to ftp.xemacs.org as
xemacs-21.2.46-21.2.47.patch.gz
Please let me know if I've managed to mess it up in some more subtle
way, this time. :-) (Not your job, Markus!! Thanks again.)

[1] I think the differences between the two are that the former
contains lock/.precious and omits all *.elc and *.info* files.
Anyway, applypatch is silent about both, and updates version.sh as
expected.
