I would not have caught it myself before the release, and I've added
"applypatch" to the set of checks I need to do before uploading.
What happened is that I locally copied the 21.2.47 tree then
reverse-updated it to make a 21.2.46 tree for the patch base. I'm
pretty sure that this would screw up any file adds and removes. I
suspect that on some platforms this would result in missing files; you
were lucky to get a sucessful build.
Of course, Martin's xre script gets this right. He does this by
keeping the previous "master" workspace around ... I don't have one
yet! Too bad I didn't see it was a necessity, not merely convenience.
Martin, if downloading the Urania tarball and makepatch'ing against
that doesn't validate with applypatch, I'll get back to you for more
advice.
