between Xft and X11 core fonts in XEmacs at runtime. Unfortunately,

Hmm, it isn't enough to disable Xft with --with-xft=no?
I'm also considering turning off Xft (with --with-xft=no) in the Gentoo
ebuild that I want to move to the main Gentoo repository shortly.
