who's the culprit, my wm (gwm) that doesn't see the change, or
XEmacs that doesn't signal that's manipulating the window?
This happens with both fvwm2 and Window Maker; I don't think it's the
wm's fault. If XEmacs wants a full-size window for the calendar (or
the message buffer window, or whatever) it has to resize its top level
window when it inserts the toolbar etc. It evidently doesn't do that.
The wm knows nothing about the subwindows, and shouldn't.
