It's a bug.
As to why it didn't get a response, I suppose that's because it looks
like it's "Ville's thread", and most developers probably assume
he'll
take care of it. But he's announced that he's busy, so it may take a
bit.
Ville, are you going to take a shot at this, or do you want somebody
else to look at it?
If ediff is involved, Michael Kifer should possibly have a look at it.
