The end-to-endness is your problem :(
I don't understand how this would not work for you. As
your
extents are start-open, begin-glyphs would always be visible, regardless
of the extent visibility.
No; XEmacs assumes that if an invisible extent is at the same position
as a glyph, that the glyph shouldn't be displayed, even if the invisible
extent isn't the same one as the one that has the glyph attached :(
