Well, since David disagrees, wouldn't the easiest solution be to
provide the AUCTeX-distribution, that is used for the version in the
XEmacs Packages, for download from somewhere?
I don't know whether it would be easy.
The tree below packages/xemacs-packages/auctex is definitely
insufficient by itself; since David refers to "the file included by
the Makefile" I assume he wants XEmacs.rules. I don't see where that
stops; I think it implies we need most packages/* files, and perhaps
some packages/xemacs-packages/* files in addition to the whole tree
under packages/xemacs-packages/auctex. I'm pretty sure the user still
won't be able to build AUCTeX, though. The build will choke
attempting to load files from xemacs-base (it's in REQUIRES in the
Makefile).
I also don't think it's ethically right to cave in to David's bullying
if we think he's wrong. (That is not to say he is ethically wrong to
want us to distribute something different as a source package, given
his beliefs about the meaning of the GPL.)
