If you set it correctly (with a trailing directory character), then
beta will save your settings, but it does not read them back in when you

Oh wait. I get it. user-init-file is supposed to be nil unless set
via the command-line, right? The documentation for this variable is
extremely terse. In any case, to rephrase the bug report. It's not
Save Options that does not work. The Options are in fact Saved.
However, for beta, they are never Restored (is that what it is called).
And, the bonus bug is the crash from the tracker.
