[comp.emacs.xemacs] Bug? symbol-near-point calls regexp-quote
I think this is a bug. If the callers of symbol-near-point want to
use
the result as a regular expression, they should do their own quoting...

I think the function was written explicitly for callers like
'occur', i.e. it's an internal function. With a docstring like
"Return the first textual item to the nearest point" you'd have
to be pretty gutsy to use it anyway.
