I don't think it's going to help much. The kinds of errors we're
seeing strongly suggest that some header file isn't getting included
somewhere, which is likely a bug in XEmacs's configure (eg, a conflict
between an explicit --with-xft and the Xft implied by --with-gtk, as I
suggested earlier) and/or the #ifdef's.
It could also be that the header file is separate in GTK 2.20 and
included by <gtk.h> or something like that in GTK 2.24, but that's
best diagnosed by somebody who knows a lot about GTK (or more than I
do, anyway).
