this is the version contained in the xemacs version *without* the
problem. this is what is currently in debian/unstable.
if I get some spare time (not too likely at present) I'll try
downgrading to the version that was failing, and getting the version
info for that. since that version was from debian/woody, I suppose it
might affect a fairly large population.
