Like the rest of the comments, this is an idiomatic reference
specific to Caucasian American racism against African-Americans
(supposedly they have an unusual penchant for watermelon.) That's
why this is very unfunny, in a way that it may be difficult for
our overseas viewers to realize. I have a sense of humor that
blanches at little, but racism is not funny. And if management at
this firm was permitting harassment of this programmer on account
of her race, they deserve whatever happens to them.
