This is really a kludge (and, yes, I did write one of the first
examples of this ;-).
But, equally, having begin-glyph-visible and end-glyph-visible
properties would do no harm.
If people don't want to use the start-open and end-open properties
to control the glyph visibility, then we NEED an alternative like
begin-glyph-visible and end-glyph-visible. There's got to be some way
of affecting extent glyph visibility.
