But this is not easy for the Common Lisps either. The "hand-coded"
stuff in CLisp is specifically for a small number of platforms, and
CMUCL is allegedly not usable at all[1], let alone efficient, on more
than a couple of platforms.
We want an engine that will be usable on all platforms we support, an
efficiency improvement on most of them, and a big efficiency
improvement on as many as possible.
