Strange, it works just fine for me.
You are using the latest sumo packages packaged for SuSE from
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.3/ ?
When I start Ispell under XEmacs, I first get the message
Starting new ispell process
and then
Can't open /usr/lib/ispell/english.hash
Does this file exist on your system?
It should be a symbolic link:
mfabian＠magellan:~$ ll /usr/lib/ispell/english.hash
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 8月 19 14:33 /usr/lib/ispell/english.hash ->
/var/lib/dict/english.hash
mfabian＠magellan:~$
This link is created by /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.ispell.
Did you call SuSEconfig after installing ispell?
At the end of this message, you find the system info of my XEmacs
installation.
