NOTE: This patch has been committed.
This is ultimately needed because of getting libgmp to compile under
Windows. You could just try to kludge around this, too, but it seemed
the time to just eliminate these new's forever rather than adding more
kludges.
The appropriate change for config.h.in will be posted shortly.
