And, just for the record, you guys have free reign on anything in
'unsupported'. Consider all patches to the unsupported tree as
pre-approved[1]. If you want to submit patches to xemacs-patches
for unsupported, that's cool; if you don't want to, that's cool
too[2].

I don't want to see patches to unsupported on xemacs-patches.
unsupported is a service for developers and users, but it's not our
responsibility. So such patches just clutter the queue.
If there is a perceived need, I'll be happy to create and support a
mailing list (or two; start with one, I think it should be sufficient)
for patches and discussion of unsupported.
All IMO (except that the offer of support is for real); discussion
welcome.

My nostalgia for Icon makes me forget about any of the bad things. I don't

Agreed.
While we are on the subject, I would still quite like to see separate patch
queues for core and packages, but I can see that this might make it
difficult for users.

BTW, I have no intention to send unsupported stuff to xemacs-patches in
the future, but did so in this case because the unsupported area has
just been kicked off, the patch affected other people's (Steve, Simon)
stuff too, and I wasn't 100% sure about it.

I agree with your reasoning here, Steve's statement was rather
general.
I think the infrastructure parts of unsupported (the Makefile,
XEmacs.rules, etc), _should_ be done publically, but for the moment
xemacs-design is probably the best place.
I'll cons up a mailing list later this week. Is xemacs-unsupported OK
for the name? Or maybe xemacs-contrib? Suggestions welcome.

i would go with xemacs-contrib as it sounds a bit better
and contrib seems to be a wildly accepted term
