Dear Bug Team!
When trying to access the menu the following error pops up.
This happend after auctex 11.92 (the last auctex version compatible with
xemacs) was installed. A bug report has sent to the auctex list as well.
However also ordinary commands like save as are giving the same error,
so I am not sure who is the culprit here.

By all means you are right. Must have been in a hurry.
Here are the steps to reproduce the error.
1. Suppose you have the latest auctex installed via the package
system (that should be 1.58 which corresponds to AUCTeX version
11.90) or
2. You want to install the last official auctex version which
supports xemacs, that is 11.92. Although I am the package manager
for the official auctex package I still have to uploaded it,
because frankly I am not sure whether the package system still
works. The auctex team provides you, via their own Makefile, the
possibility to generate a xemacs package (which however should go
to $HOME/.xemacs/xemacs-package and not in the official xemacs
package directory. I have generated such a package and could send
it to you.
3. You start xemacs 21.4.22: xemacs -q
4. You load a file which just contains the line
(require 'tex-site)
5. You open/generate a latex file. (Please check that C-h v
AUCTeX-version returns either 11.90 (or 11.92, if you use the
package I can send you off list.))
6. Once you have done all that, type some text and use the menu to
save the file as (C-x C-w would be the key strokes. The
key strokes work) the error should pop up.
Please let me know whether you want auctex 11.92 as a package.

I used xemacs 21.4.24 (the latest and greatest), and pkgsrc print/auctex
which I just updated to 11.92 (it installs outside the xemacs package
system).

Hm - works just fine here... What did I miss? Have you tried 21.4.24?

Hm - works just fine here... What did I miss? Have you tried 21.4.24?
That is extremely odd. I am bound to xemacs 21.4.22 because this is the
version Ubuntu 16.04 ships and which my college uses (it so happens that
I also have Ubuntu 16.04 installed, so I can reproduce her error). I
personally use 21.5.34[1]
I checked with the minibuf.el from the default branch of xemacs-21.4
(which must correspond to 21.4.24 I presume), there is a slight
difference but the main crucial setting
is
(split-window nil (- (frame-height frame) 3)))
The same as in in 21.4.22.
That setting causes the problem and I changed to
(split-window nil (- (frame-height frame) 5)))
Which solves it.
Now I don't make this up myself

So I only see two explanations.
1. Some thing is wrong with auctex. May I send you offlist the
auctex package I used and you send me yours to see, whether this
is the source of error.
2. If that is not the case and I am almost sure it is not, then the
culprit must be 21.4.22, and I have to send the patch to
Ubuntu/debian (who will never answer or bother, in my experience)
So Hauke please tell me whether we could interchange our auctex packages
(off list)

Without that, "C-h v AUCTeX-version" would give me the version of the
xemacs-packages auctex package, so xemacs-packages probably comes before
site-packages in load-path?

I put a pkgsrc binary package at
<https://www2.nt.tu-darmstadt.de/~hf/pkgsrc/xemacs-auctex-11.92.tgz>;. It
is essentially a tarball with a bit of meta information, which you can
ignore. Untar it wherever convenient (the elisp files should be
independent of PREFIX), add the site-packages dir to load-path, and you
should be set.
